Job Description: Group Tour/Sports Marketing Manager
Reports to: President
Salaried Position
This position generates business from the group market including tour operators, travel agents, AAA offices, and any other markets that may be related. This position is also responsible for sales and marketing to solicit and book sports and athletic events for the destination. It is responsible for the cultivation and maintenance of relationships with contacts. Both areas result in increased hotel occupancy and media exposure. The position also works to support the Bureau with press release/media contact and familiarization tours.
This position proactively and aggressively responsible to market to the above audiences.
Accountabilities:
- Represent the destination, the Bureau and Sports Commission at trade shows for group tour & sports.
- Follow-up on leads received from trade shows and other sources
- Works with member properties to develop tour itineraries and packages
- Maintains contact with motor coach tour operators to encourage tours; coordinates familiarization tours; develop awareness of our destination
- Develops an advertising and public relations program targeting the group tour industry, including the group tour planner. Includes advertising sales and monitoring income/expenses for each piece.
- Develops and maintains an inventory of sports facilities and creates working relationships with the managers of these facilities
- Identifies sports events that could be held in this area
- Prepares bids to organizations to book events
- Organize, plans and participates in site visits and familiarization tours.
- Develops local corporate sponsorship opportunities
- Works independently to research prospective customers and develop database lists in the group tour and sports market
- Maintain a database of past, current and prospective group tour and sports market leads
- Develop relationships with other state CVB associations and attraction representatives to cross-sell offerings
- Works with PA group tour committee to support State marketing efforts
- Speak to groups and sports teams off-site upon request
- Respond to and fulfill requests for information
- Position supports Bureau by developing press releases, media support and other communications support as necessary.
Requirements:
- Four-year degree from an academic institution in marketing/communications
- 3-years experience in a sales/marketing position (group tour or sports given preference)
- Excellent organization and communications skills
- Multi-task oriented
- Knowledge of sports or hospitality industry a plus
- Frequent travel required
